Atlanta’s Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) answered over 76,000 calls in 2022. The majority of those calls were related to medical emergencies. That’s why every Atlanta firefighter is also an EMT, and AFRD operates ambulances to provide critical care responses all over the city. The Department will be able to boost response times and coverage on the Southwest side of Atlanta once its new substation opens in spring 2023. The facility will include two ambulances and rapid response teams.
